Noni pill and juice Tahitian research fruit
Noni (Morinda citrifolia) is native to
Southeast Asia and can now also be found throughout India, Australia, Pacific
Islands including Tahiti and Hawaii, and other hot, humid areas around the
world.Noni, a relative of the coffee plant, is a small tree that may reach
heights of up to 30 feet tall. Being tolerant of poor conditions such as saline
soils and drought conditions, Noni can grow in many sorts of habitats, including
shaded forests and rocky coastlines. The young Noni plant takes 18 months to
mature, at which time an average Noni tree will begin to produce about eight to
18 pounds of fruit every month of the year.
Is it a cure all or just a healthy
drink?
Over the last decade, a growing number of people have
become interested in the medicinal uses of noni juice, made from the fruit of the Indian
mulberry (Morinda citrifolia) of the South Pacific Islands of Tahiti, and more recently
from Hawaii. Noni

Blood sugar
In Java, noni has been part of the treatment for high blood sugar. Most
of the folk uses for diabetes involve chewing the leaves or a combination of the plant and
leaves. Chewing mulberry leaves releases and activates large amounts of mucilage or
insoluble dietary fiber. The fiber may slow the absorption of simple sugars from the gut.
The effect in most patients would be a slight reduction in the peak glucose level
following a meal.
Cancer
Noni fruit juice contains a polysaccharide-rich substance called noni-ppt
with anti-tumor activity. In a study performed at the University of Hawaii, administration
of noni-ppt significantly enhanced the duration of survival of mice with lung tumor. The
researchers say, "This suggests possible clinical applications of noni-ppt as a
supplemental agent in cancer treatment."
Cancer preventive effect of Noni.
Wang MY, Su C.
Department of Pathology, UIC College of Medicine, Rockford, Illinois 61107, USA.
Noni has been extensively used in folk medicine by
Polynesians for over 2,000 years. It has been reported to have broad therapeutic
effects, including anticancer activity, in both clinical practice and laboratory
animal models. The mechanism for these effects remains unknown. The hypothesis
that Noni possesses a cancer preventive effect at the initiation
stage of carcinogenesis was studied. Our preliminary data indicated that 10%
Tahitian Noni Liquid Dietary Supplement or Tahitian Noni Juice, made from noni fruit by Morinda Inc, in drinking water for one week was able
to prevent DMBA-DNA adduct formation. The levels of DMBA-DNA adducts were
reduced by 30% in the heart, 41% in the lung, 42% in the liver, and 80% in the
kidney of female SD rats. Even more dramatic results were obtained in male C57
BL-6 mice: 10% TNJ was able to reduce DMBA-DNA adduct formation by 60% in the
heart, 50% in the lung, 70% in the liver, and 90% in the kidney. In order to
explore the mechanism of this preventive effect, the antioxidant activity of
Tahitian Noni Juice
was examined in vitro by lipid hydroperoxide (LPO) and tetrazolium nitroblue (TNB)
assays. In the LPO assay, LPO oxidizes leucomethylene blue to methylene blue in
the presence of hemoglobin. The resultant blue color was quantified at 660 nm
spectrophotometrically. In the TNB assay, superoxide anion radicals (SAR) reduce
TNB into formazan blue that was also measured by absorption at 602 nm. Tahitian Noni
Juice
showed a dose-dependent inhibition of both LPO and SAR in our system. The
antioxidant activity of Tahitian Noni Juice was compared to the effects of
vitamin C, grape seed powder, and pycnogenol at the daily dose per serving level
recommended by U.S. RDAs or manufacturers. The results suggest that prevention of
carcinogen-DNA adduct formation and the antioxidant activity of Noni may
contribute to the cancer preventive effect of Noni.

Wound-healing activity of noni fruit juice on diabetes induced rats.
J Wound Care. 2007 Feb. Nayak BS, Isitor GN, Maxwell A, Bhogadi V, Ramdath
DD. Department of Preclinical Sciences, University of the West Indies, St
Augustine, Trinidad.
This study aimed to evaluate the wound-healing activity of noni fruit juice in
streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. This study demonstrates that the juice of
noni fruit significantly reduces blood sugar levels and hastens wound healing in
diabetic rats.
Energy
Noni fruit has been used by Polynesians to
improve energy levels. Researchers in China gave aged mice Tahitian Noni Juice
and then compared them in the forced swim test to with young and aged mice who
did not drink the noni juice. The mice drinking noni juice were able to swim
longer and had more endurance, similar to the young mice. The researchers
conclude, "These results confirm the reported use of noni juice to combat
fatigue, improve endurance and increase overall physical performance."
Perhaps noni supplements provide the same benefits as
noni juice, however we need studies to compare a noni supplement to noni juice
to see if there is a difference. One advantage of noni capsules is that they
don't have the calories in the form of fructose that noni juice has.
Whether you need a little pick-me-up to get through the afternoon… or an energy
boost to get you through your workout, you might consider drinking the juice of
one exotic fruit. Over the last two decades, a growing number of people have
become interested in the medicinal uses of noni juice. The juice comes from the
fruit of the Indian mulberry of the South Pacific Islands of Tahiti, and more
recently from Hawaii. Polynesians have used noni in folk remedies for over 2000
years. The noni fruit has been marketed for a broad range of therapeutic
effects, including antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antitumor, analgesic,
hypotensive, anti-inflammatory, and immune enhancing effects. But noni juice can
also enhance energy and wellbeing - a benefit backed up by modern research.
Researchers in China gave aged mice Tahitian Noni Juice. They then compared them
in a forced swim test with young and aged mice who did not drink the noni juice.
The mice drinking noni juice were able to swim longer and had more endurance.
(Their performance was similar to that of the young mice.) The researchers
concluded, "These results confirm the reported use of noni juice to combat
fatigue, improve endurance and increase overall physical performance." If you
can’t find the noni juice, you can also get your energy boost with noni
supplements. One advantage of noni capsules is that they don't have the calories
in the form of fructose that noni juice has.
Immunity
Infections are the most common applications of
noni. The extract from the leaves of noni (not the fruit that renders
noni juice) displayed a moderate suppression of Ascaris lumbricoides (intestinal
nematodes) growth in the test tube. However, noni juice has not been shown to improve
infections once symptoms have manifested, although there are anecdotal reports of patients
feeling better from mild infections after using noni. Decoctions of the leaves or roots of
related mulberry species may have some suppressive effect on parasitic infections.
Side effects of noni
In some regions of the world noni and other mulberry species are used as a
laxative. Predictably, some patients using higher concentrations of noni juice may
experience some diarrhea. Although the risk of long-term adverse reactions is not
currently known, it should be very low, because of the long history of mulberry species as
a food in wide geographic regions. Patients with diabetes would be wise to find out the
amount of sugars used to sweeten the particular product they wish to use.
Noni juice is not toxic
Toxicological and analytical investigations of noni (Morinda citrifolia) fruit
juice.
J Agric Food Chem. 2007 Jan. Institute of Experimental and Clinical
Pharmacology and Toxicology, University Clinic, Hamburg, Germany.
Noni is known to contain genotoxic anthraquinones in the roots. Because of the
widespread use of noni juice, the possible genotoxic risk was examined through a
battery of short-term tests. Noni juice was also chemically analyzed for the
possible presence of anthraquinones. Chemical analysis and genotoxicity tests
reveal that noni juice does not have a genotoxic potential and that genotoxic
anthraquinones do not exist in noni juice.
Noni dosage
Suggested noni dose is three capsules per day, taken with a few ounces of water,
half an hour before a meal. All three capsules may be taken at once or in divided doses.
Three capsules are equivalent to about two tablespoons of liquid noni juice. A
concentrated form of the juice is also available. Noni is often mixed with other fruit
juices because of its unpleasant taste.
Conclusion
At this point, there are no scientific data to support the use of noni
juice as a substitute for any standard medical treatment. Patients who are looking for
additional help in treating mild infections, cancer or chronic pain could try noni juice,
realizing that the benefits are likely to be minimal. Perhaps future research will give us
additional clues to the potential therapeutic benefits of using noni juice or extracts. In
the meantime, due to its content of various nutrients, noni juice is a healthy drink to
consume as part of an overall balanced diet.
Noni juice mineral content
varies among brands
Mineral variability among 177 commercial noni juices.
Int J Food Sci Nutr. 2006 Nov-Dec. West BJ, Tolson CB, Vest RG, Jensen
S, Lundell TG. Research and Development Department, Tahitian Noni International,
American Fork, Utah 84003, USA.
The popularity of noni juice is increasing globally. A mineral profile was
determined by analyses of 177 brands of commercial noni juice. A large degree of
variability was found in the concentrations of nine minerals. While potassium
was found to be the most prominent mineral, its concentration in most commercial
brands is of minor nutritional significance. The wide variability among the many
brands of commercial noni juice precludes the assumption that all are the same.
Many have a different nutrient profile to that published by the European Union
for Tahitian Noni Juice.
Noni supplement questions
Q. Does noni plant supplement help with eyesight improvement?
A. Not that we are aware of. For better vision, consider
Eyesight-Rx formula that works within days.
Q. If I would purchase noni pills, would I still
have to take my multivitamin, lutein, calcium, potassium and cranberry vitamins?
Or would I take only noni? Noni sounds like a good product and I am just
inquiring before I purchase.
A. That is a decision that you and your health care provider would
have to make.
Q. Since looking over several websites, one
suggested to not take the noni supplement for 10 days every 3 months. Do you
think this is a good idea and why? I have been reading this noni has alot of
benefits and has lot of different vitamins in. I am one not to take more
vitamins than needed. Some websites say you don't need to take additional
vitamins if taking noni.
A. There are no strict guidelines to follow in regards to noni pill
supplement ingestion. There are many variables involved in taking supplements.
As a general rule, it is a good idea to take breaks from the use of supplements.
The length of the breaks and the frequency is a matter of individual need and
response. Noni is not a replacement for nutrients available in multivitamins.
Q. I was searching for Tahitian Noni Juice for a friend and I came across your site. I can tell you from my own experience..., A woman gave me a bottle of Tahitian Noni Juice back around early 1991. My only illness at the time was probably just being tired often and not getting proper vitamins from not eating right. I was about 30 then. I remember drinking a 1/2 oz of the juice twice a day. It probably was a week before I felt a little more energy though my eating habits had not changed. What surprised me though was after a couple weeks of drinking this noni juice (nasty taste not mixed with anything else) I was making dinner one night and I accidentally spilled boiling water over half my hand. I just knew it was bad enough to expect that it would bubble up and blister. Though that night it was red, the next morning I saw no sign whatsoever of a burn on my hand (like it never happened). Now, I don't know how that is possible and can only think it had something to do with the noni juice I had been taking. I was truly amazed. I'm surprised that after this many years of being available that no real noni studies have been done. That is a shame really. I'm a believer that there are some healing properties in this noni fruit juice. I am not now nor have I ever been a noni distributor of this product.
Q. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the early eighties. After trying antidepressants and Vioxx, I began trying various natural remedies. The thing that has helped me the most is Tahitian Noni Juice. (I don't sell Tahitian Noni Juice anymore--but still take it.) It hasn't helped with pain, but definitely helps with energy level so that I can function. Before I started taking Tahitian Noni Juice about three years ago, I just wanted to stay home.
Q. i am diabetic and having high cholesterol. Is noni
safe as i read about noni in some web site its contain lot of sugar and its
harmful for diabetes.
A. Noni supplement capsules do not have sugar and are okay to use
by someone who has diabetes.
Almost twenty years ago my daughter had what was diagnosed as a psychotic
episode. She was drinking heavily and also smoking marijuana. She was 27 years
old. I have always used vitamin supplements and started her on a mega vitamin
program. The hospital prescribed psychiatric medication. For over twenty
years we tried to get her off these medications but to no avail, she was
hospitalized time after time. And the medication didn't really help her only
sedated her. I had cured my own Cancer on a Live Foods diet and vitamins and
herbs and have helped many people do the same. We had our daughter on live
foods and it was helpful but she would always relapse. Since I had her brain
chemicals tested I knew she was low on Seretonin. Last year I got
up in the middle of the night and looked up foods high in Seretonin. I knew
about turkey and banana but since she's a vegetarian and is sweet fruit
intolerant they weren't good then I read about Noni and its high seretonin
content or tryptophan. I bought a pure noni juice product the next
day and gave it to her twice that day and the next day she was much better. I
continued giving it to her and she continued to improve. I then switched from
the fermented pasturized store bought version to a pure raw flash freeze dried
powder from Optimum Organics USA. She has continued to improve and for
the first time in twenty years she is not delusional and on NO Medication. She
had had many diagnosis of schizophrenia and bi polar borderline, etc I
would defintely add Noni to the diet of any person with mental problems. The
Noni helped despite use over years of 5htp and tryptophan which didn't really
help her. I myself feel much better with it and calmer so does my
husband. I am a nutritionist and my husband a microbiologist. Noni is
a life saver. I believe noni is a miracle food.
We doubt the benefits of noni that you explain were due to its
serotonin or tryptophan content. Noni has many compounds that are potentially
helpful. We will await further noni testimonials to determine whether this fruit
or fruit supplement has any benefits for psychiatric conditions.
I was wondering if you take out the toxic elements in
these fruits Noni, Goji, Mangosteen,
acai berry extract info? I read that there are certain oxides
or something that are bad for people.
We have reviewed the research studies on these fruits and
have not found any evidence that any chemicals need to be removed. These fruits
have been consumed by humans for long periods with positive health benefits.
Noni root extract study
Antispasmodic and vasodilator activities of Morinda citrifolia root extract are
mediated through blockade of voltage dependent calcium channels.
BMC Complement Altern Med. 2010 Jan 13;
Gilani AH, Mandukhail SU, Iqbal J, Yasinzai M, Aziz N, Khan A, -Rehman NU.
Morinda citrifolia Noni is an edible plant with wide range of medicinal uses. It
occurs exclusively in tropical climate zone from India through Southeast Asia
and Australia to Eastern Polynesia and Hawaii. The objective of this study was
to explore the possibal mode(s) of action for its antispasmodic, vasodilator and
cardio-suppressant effects to rationalize its medicinal use in gut and
cardiovascular disorders. Isolated tissue preparations such as, rabbit jejunum,
rat and rabbit aorta and guinea pig atria were used to test the antispasmodic
and cardiovascular relaxant effects and the possible mode of action(s) of the
70% aqueous-ethanolic extract of Morinda citrifolia roots Our results suggest
that the spasmolytic and vasodilator effects of noni root extract are mediated
possibly through blockade of voltage-dependent calcium channels and release of
intracellular calcium, which may explain the medicinal use of Morinda citrifolia
in diarrhea and hypertension. However, more detailed studies are required to
assess the safety and efficacy of this plant.
